Typically for a wedding all the attention and fuss is over the bride’s impressive cake, but increasingly the groom’s cake is actually more elaborate as guys are ditching the usual plain chocolate cake and elevating the tradition with a custom cake. Here are a few of our favorite groom’s cakes from last wedding season, starting with Charlie’s Boston album cake!
This rockin’ cake almost didn’t happen! During our first meeting with Charlie and his now wife Melissa, he initially wanted a baseball jersey cake. Easy peasy. The conversation evolved and after looking through our portfolio, Charlie confessed he really wanted his cake decorated as the cover of his favorite album, the self titled Boston. Paige assured him it would be awesome, and clearly she delievered! She handpainted the outerspace guitar to achieve a similar look as the album artwork. On their wedding day, Paige and I set up the cakes to the string quartet warming up with “More Than A Feeling.” Perfection.
For the outdoorsy groom, a hunting scene with a topper modeled after his dog.
Paige and I bleed red & black so we especially love making Bulldawg groom’s cakes! This was for Paige’s cousin’s wedding last year. (Perks of having a cake designer in the family!)
A rather unconventional groom’s cake, but definitely a conversation piece!
And just when you things couldn’t get more dangerous – a flaming dragon groom’s cake! Fondant flames rise up both tiers as a dragon figurine guards two rings!
On to something more sentimental, a cake shaped like the groom’s dog!
When the groom loves the Lakers!

Sail away with on this cake!
This next cake was all planned out by the bride and a complete surprise to the groom! Paige and the bride designed the cake without the groom’s knowledge after the consultation. On the wedding day he was in awe! The symbol on the lantern is double happiness, the Chinese character for marriage.
On the bottom tier, Paige handpainted the gold phoenix and dragon.
And now, we approach the final frontier of cake!
As a lifelong Trekkie, Josh had a clear vision of his groom’s cake and was going all out with a replica of the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek: The Next Generation. I couldn’t tell you the difference but it turned out stellar!
Custom groom’s cakes are an easy and tasty way to add his personal touch to the wedding day and provide more cake and more flavors for your guests!
